The full name of NIT Allahabad is Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology. It is names after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who also laid the foundation of the institute. The college offers 4 post graduate and 9 post graduate programmes. They have 14 different department.

The Institute had begun with offering bachelor degree programmes in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
